Job Summary 

This hands-on position is responsible for applying knowledge and expertise to develop and execute assigned projects; providing input into the design and pricing of new projects in support of business development and executing those projects after contract award; supervising the construction of installations from the initial phase to completion and serving as liaison between the client and Blue Phoenix USA; monitoring and managing the quality, budget, planning and implementation; and liaising between clients, the parent company colleagues in the Netherlands, subcontractors, suppliers, engineering firms and partners. The position is based in Pasadena, Maryland, and requires both frequent domestic travel and regular interaction with the company’s European counterparts. The role reports directly to the Operations Manager.

Essential Duties and Responsibilitie

  • Proactively support Operations Manager in scheduling, quality management and cost management for all new project installations across Blue Phoenix USA and Eco Recovery Solutions (ERS). 
  • Prepare project status reports and work to ensure plans adhere to contract specifications. 
  • Determine project/equipment specifications based on design, customer and budgetary requirements. 
  • Plan and organize technical projects from conception to completion. 
  • Prepare engineering documents such as site plans, equipment layout, process flow diagrams, P&I diagrams, etc. to support facility installation, start-up and operation. 
  • Provide engineering support and collaboration with engineering firms providing “balance of plant design.” 
  • Evaluate, troubleshoot and develop solutions to challenges presented at existing project sites to improve system performance through hands-on field work. 
  • Prepare written reports documenting field observations and estimates of probable cost to implement repairs or solutions. 
  • Perform other duties as requested and/or assigned. 

Supervisory Responsibilities 
Supervises on-site contractors during construction. 

Education and Experience 

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, e.g. mechanical engineering; master’s degree preferred 
  • Strong construction project management experience; civil engineering experience a plus 
  • Minimum of 3 years’ relevant, hands-on work experience (e.g. process design, mining or metallurgy, waste-to-energy, power plant design, bulk materials handling, recycling, maritime engineering) 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; familiarity with AutoCAD and Visio preferred 
  • Knowledge of machine maintenance preferred

  • A mindset toward Safety, Health & Environment during work, with strict adherence to and enhancement of the Company’s standards; ability to prioritize team’s well-being 
  • Ability and willingness to travel both within the U.S. and internationally 

Physical Demands 

  • Sit, stand, walk 
  • Climb and walk on heights often greater than 4 feet 
  • Move about all areas of the plant, including catwalks, deck grating, wet and muddy areas, and uneven surfaces 
  • Close vision, distance vision, ability to adjust focus, corrected or otherwise
